Product Details
This is the original U.S. one sheet theatrical poster for Alain Resnais’ acclaimed film Mon Oncle d’Amérique, released in 1980 and distributed by New World Pictures. Measuring the standard 27 x 41 inches and printed for the film’s first American theatrical run, this poster features a striking minimalist black-and-white design with a stylized anatomical illustration of a human head — cleverly referencing the film’s psychological and philosophical themes. Surrounding the artwork is a collection of glowing reviews from prominent critics, including Time Magazine, The New York Times, and Village Voice, hailing the film as “the best of the year.” This release starred Gérard Depardieu, Nicole Garcia, and Roger Pierre, and remains a touchstone of French cinema’s post-New Wave era.
The poster is folded as originally issued, with light handling wear visible at the fold lines but overall very clean and well-preserved for its age. No major paper loss or staining observed on the front, and the reverse is exceptionally white — indicating minimal exposure to humidity or smoke. The typography remains bold, and the original NSS number (800174) is intact in the lower margin.
Condition:
Near Fine (VF/NM). Crisp folds, very light edge and corner wear, sharp color contrast. Unbacked.
Rarity and Collector Appeal:
U.S. one sheets for Mon Oncle d’Amérique are relatively uncommon, especially in this excellent condition. The film’s enduring relevance in academic and cinephile circles — coupled with Alain Resnais’ cult status — makes this poster a desirable piece for collectors of foreign cinema, 1980s arthouse film ephemera, or minimalist film art. This poster also carries historical value as part of New World Pictures’ brief but influential art film distribution slate.
Ships folded, as originally distributed to cinemas. Securely packed for protection.
