Product Details

This is an original vintage Spanish-language theatrical poster for The Spirit of St. Louis, directed by Billy Wilder and starring James Stewart as aviator Charles Lindbergh. Released in 1957 by Warner Bros., the film chronicles Lindbergh’s historic solo transatlantic flight. This rare Spanish-market one sheet, printed for Latin American distribution, features the alternate title El Águila Solitaria (“The Lone Eagle”), with striking period typography and bold use of film stills across the vertical layout.

The poster prominently showcases James Stewart in vibrant color, surrounded by inset scenes that evoke the excitement and drama of Lindbergh’s journey. With both English and Spanish elements, it represents a unique bilingual collectible tied to one of the most celebrated collaborations between Stewart and Wilder.

Condition: Fair to Poor. This copy is heavily worn and displays substantial signs of age and usage:

  • Folded with multiple tears and missing paper along the folds and margins.

  • Several central punctures and losses (notably through the title and imagery).

  • Writing and stamps visible on the reverse.

  • Edge wear, staining, brittle paper, and general surface soiling.

  • Pinholes and tape marks from past mounting.

Rarity and Collector Appeal:

Spanish-language posters from the 1950s for major Hollywood films are highly collectible, especially when tied to iconic figures like James Stewart and Charles Lindbergh. Despite the condition, this poster has strong historical and cinematic value due to:

  • The Spanish-language alternate title rarely seen in the market.

  • Its connection to director Billy Wilder and Pulitzer-winning source material.

  • The scarcity of Warner Bros. international prints from the period.

While not suited for high-end display without restoration, it remains a desirable piece for collectors of aviation cinema, 1950s ephemera, or international variants of American classics.

Provenance:

Acquired from a private Latin American archive.

Only two available in our collection.

A must-have for collectors of aviation cinema, classic biopics, or 1950s Warner Bros. posters.
