LOBBY CARDS

Lobby Cards were small-format movie posters used to promote films inside theater lobbies from the 1910s through the 1980s. Typically measuring about 11 × 14 inches in the United States (and slightly larger in international versions), these cards featured vivid stills or artwork highlighting key scenes and stars. Displayed in sets—usually eight per film—they provided audiences with a visual preview of the story before the screening began. Beyond their promotional purpose, lobby cards are admired today for their cinematic composition, color printing, and period charm. Collectors value them as affordable, display-friendly alternatives to full-size posters, and as authentic historical artifacts that capture the visual language and marketing artistry of classic cinema.
